Press Release: Winooski Police Department Promotes Officers to Sergeants

The Winooski Police Department is pleased to announce that as of Sunday, June 30, 2019, Officers Shawna Crump and Thomas Cardin have been promoted to the position of Sergeant. Sergeants Crump and Cardin have been exemplary employees of the Winooski Police Department and these promotions reflect their dedicated service and commitment to making our community a safe place to live and our department an excellent place to work.

Before joining the Winooski Police Department in 2015, Sergeant Crump earned her Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degrees with high honors in Criminal Justice and Criminal Investigation (SUNY Canton, NY) and served as a Police Officer for the University of Vermont. Her specialized trainings include crime scene investigation, forensic photography, CPR/first aid, Narcan deployment, and opioid investigation. She is also a certified Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Instructor and has provided our community with these important self-defense courses.

After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Champlain College, VT) Sergeant Cardin graduated from the Vermont Police Academy as Team Leader where he received the Jason Allen Leadership Award. Sergeant Cardin brings his law enforcement experiences with St. Michael’s College and the Colchester Police Department. His instructor certifications and specialized trainings include ICAT (Integrating Communications Assessments and Tactics), de-escalation, FTO (Field Training Officer), ARIDE (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement), and Interview/Interrogation by Forensic Analysis.

We’re thrilled to congratulate Sergeants Crump and Cardin and welcome them to their new leadership roles with the Winooski Police Department.
