Inclusion and Belonging Commission Update

Councilor Aurora Hurd

By Councilor Aurora Hurd

Hello neighbors,

The following is an update from The Winooski Commission for Inclusion & Belonging Commission, which acts as an advisory group for the City Council with a focus on equitable policies and best practices for inclusion.

At the Commission’s February meeting, which had been delayed so as to not overlap with Budget Presentations, three areas were discussed. The Commission discussed some of the recommendations of the Equity Audit. Related to the Equity Audit, there was discussion of the continued process of the Winooski School District Superintendent Search and how the Commission had been engaged thus far.

The final item reviewed was an Equity Assessment Worksheet. This was an item originating from the City Council and had been discussed at the Council meetings on February 6th and 21st. The Commission reviewed the draft document with an eye to ensure it will help assess the equity of future policies and budgets that go before Council. Recommendations were made around specifics for stakeholder outreach and considering the impacts on different communities in the City.

The next commission meeting will be on April 13th, 2023. We have one commissioner and two alternate positions open. If you’re interested you can learn more at winooskivt.gov/inclusion
