The City of Winooski is pleased to announce that Justin Huizenga, formerly Lieutenant for the Winooski Police Department, has officially been appointed by the City Manager to serve as Winooski’s new Chief of Police.

After a rigorous national search, screening process, and community engagement, it is clear that Chief Huizenga is the best possible next Chief for Winooski. Justin brings a deep commitment to community policing, improving the profession, and building meaningful relationships with residents, colleagues, and partners. His law enforcement career of 18 years includes a degree in Criminal Justice from Champlain College, an Executive Development certification from Roger Williams University, and experience as Patrol Sergeant, Detective, Lieutenant, and Interim Chief.

We appreciate the many community members who provided critical feedback to aid this decision. Huge thanks are in order for Justin’s willingness to step up to this level of leadership and to everyone at the Winooski Police Department for continuing to provide excellent and professional service during the interim time between Chiefs. Additional thanks to Winooski Police Chief Advisory Committee for their incredible work to improve the process and outcomes.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Justin Huizenga and welcoming him to this new role!
