On 02/06/20 the Winooski Police Department was notified by the Grand Isle States Attorney’s Office that Winooski Police Detective Christopher Matott was named the defendant in an Extreme Risk Temporary Relief from Abuse Order issued that afternoon. Detective Matott was immediately placed on paid administrative leave and department owned items were collected.
On 02/19/20 the Vermont State Police contacted the Winooski Police Department to advise that Detective Matott was the subject of a criminal investigation involving the charges of Domestic Assault and 2nd Degree Unlawful Restraint, and that he is going to be arraigned in Grand Isle County tomorrow at 12:45 P.M.
Due to the allegations Detective Matott’s employment status has been changed to unpaid administrative leave. At the conclusion of the criminal proceedings and following due process, an administrative investigation will follow.
Members of the Winooski Police Department hold our role as guardians within our community in the highest regard, and it’s disheartening to be informed that an employee is accused of domestic violence.
Any further questions in reference to the criminal investigation should be directed to the Vermont State Police. No further statement will be made on this ongoing personnel matter.
- Rick Hebert, Chief of Police
