There is much going on in our city!
At our last City Council meeting, we received an update on the Main Street Revitalization Project. Design work will continue, even though progress has been slowed down by the pandemic. The current timeline shows that work could begin next summer. This winter, we will see final designs and discuss phasing and coordinating with other construction projects in the area, such as the school’s Capital Project.
We heard some early details about efforts to bring a childcare hub to Winooski through a new statewide COVID-19 initiative. This would complement our existing Thrive after school program. Details are still coming together - to learn more, visit https://www.healthvermont.gov/response/coronavirus-covid-19/schools-colleges-child-care-programs. To see our current Thrive After School offerings, visit https://www.winooskivt.gov/thrive.
The meeting also included several grant applications, data on housing stability in Winooski, and a year-end update from our treasurer. On both the housing and budget fronts, we are doing better than we could be, given the current circumstances. View the 4th quarter Treasurer’s Report here.
Our Planning Commission also met this week and checked in on current projects and the ongoing discussion of parking. Parking, pedestrian safety, and bicycle access are all important pieces of Winooski’s Master Plan including a vision of a healthy, livable, multi-modal city. Over the past several years, multiple studies and planning processes have taken place to help us comprehensively address these concerns across our city. Multiple initiatives are underway or planned for the future. It will take us time to realize this vision. I urge you to take a look at this memo which summarizes some of the current efforts and the work of the Planning Commission.
Please also watch out for City Updates. In every City Council meeting, our City Manager provides updates on current events in the city. This week’s update included a recap of the Manseau Street parking meeting, actions related to the CBD odor, and other ongoing work in Winooski. Town Meeting TV provides helpful recordings of these updates and full meetings! We are sharing these updates here on Front Porch Forum and on our other channels - view them all here: https://www.cctv.org/watch-tv/municipalities/winooski
