The City of Winooski’s Community Services Department is pleased to announce that they were awarded a grant through the Vermont Afterschool, Inc. Youth Council Grant program to support the creation of Winooski’s own Youth Council.
Grant funds will allow our team to develop and sustain a Youth Council that will provide on-going leadership and help create an expanded slate of programs that will be relevant and accessible for our young people. Members will also be tasked with developing a participatory budgeting process by which they will sub-grant between $2,000 and $5,000 out to community-driven projects that will enhance or add youth programming options to our community. Members will be provided a stipend for their participation at $25 per meeting.
Applications are now open for Winooski’s Youth Council! Interested applicants in grades 6 – 12 can simply visit https://www.winooskivt.gov/youthcouncil and fill out a brief survey. A hardcopy application is also available. The Youth Council will be supported by a staff team made up of the AmeriCorps VISTA Youth Programs Coordinator, the Recreational Programs Manager, and staff from the Winooski Memorial Library.
