[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Update - 12.18.20

Mayors Update

Hello Neighbors,

At our last City Council meeting (12.14.20) we continued the fiscal year 2022 (FY22) budget planning process and focused on our Public Works Dept. and capital improvements. Some projects to complete in FY22 will include completing the delayed Hickok Street Watermain Replacement Project, maintaining the Myers Memorial Pool once opened. the resurfacing of Hood, Dion, and Bellevue Streets, and sidewalk replacements on Reginald, Bernard, and Gail Streets. Staff are also working on a city-wide traffic calming policy to start addressing raised safety concerns.

Winooski City Council will meet every week in January to complete budget discussions including:

  • Community Services on Jan.4
  • Public Safety on Jan. 11
  • Overall budget discussion on Jan. 19
  • Final budget and warning approval for Town Meeting Day on Jan. 25

For full details, budget information, and meeting details, please visit https://www.winooskivt.gov/fy22. Your voices are important in the decision-making process and we encourage you to join the meetings or watch live/recorded via Town Meeting TV so that you may best understand how your tax dollars are being spent.

Another discussion had during our last meeting was on our progress towards the goals of the Master Plan. The Master Plan is the guiding vision for Winooski’s future based on lots of public and professional input. Volunteers on the City’s policy commissions had recent discussions regarding the different vision areas: Housing, Economic Development, Municipal Infrastructure, and Safe, Healthy, Connected Community. On the whole, we’ve made great progress on this 7-year plan that is only 1.5 years old. We discussed priorities for the next year or two as we move into recovery from the pandemic, including financial sustainability, long-term funding for the Housing Trust Fund, sidewalk repair and road improvements, historic preservation, and life/safety services. Please read this memo to learn more.

We also approved an electronic signature process for any resident petitions for Town Meeting Day, so folks do not go door to door collecting signatures given that we all should be avoiding contact with other households this winter. You can see the approved process here. Please call the City Clerk's Office for more info: 802 655 6410.

If you have thoughts about the budget to share, questions to ask, or want to learn more about any of the Council’s work, please don’t hesitate to reach out by email or phone. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season,

Mayor Kristine Lott - klott@winooskivt.gov / 802 766 1988
