[ARCHIVED] Mayors Update - 9.24.21

Mayors Update1

Hello Winooski, at Monday’s City Council meeting, we met our final candidate for the City Manager role. After a search committee advanced 3 candidates to interview with the City Council, 2 candidates were selected to advance to this final stage of interview: public presentation. Unfortunately, in the past week, one of the finalists withdrew from consideration after accepting another position, but we still have a strong candidate remaining. We asked them to do a public presentation for our community so that you all could give feedback on what you think of the candidate, what you want to see in the next city manager, and what we should prioritize in our decision-making.

Miss the meeting? You can watch the recorded presentation here. You can also provide feedback for this candidate by:

Last week, members of our Housing Commission met with our Planning Commission to share recommendations on how we can update our zoning regulations to incentivize the building of housing that meets the community’s housing goals: affordability for all different income levels, units that can accommodate varying household sizes, and opportunities for homeownership. After digging through a lot of data and hearing from local housing experts, we learned that the best incentive we could offer to developers is to reduce parking requirements for projects if they meet our goals, and that our minimum requirements might be too high already. We are waiting for more data on our actual parking availability to see if this is true or not. When that study is complete, the Planning Commission will look at the data and consider the recommendations of the Housing Commission.

And finally, we also proclaimed this week of September 19th as Welcoming Week, as we stand united to commemorate the strength, courage, and resilience of the millions of refugees around the world; including refugees who have come to call Winooski home. To learn more about Welcoming Week and how you can get involved, please visit welcomingamerica.org.

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
