Today, I join our City Council, City of Winooski Staff, our partners at Winooski Strong, and the community at large in support of the students of the Winooski School District, who were recently victims of racial harassment during their home soccer game earlier this month.
The City of Winooski stands against any behavior that is harmful towards our community, and strongly opposes the abhorrent behavior conducted by the students and spectators of the Enosburg Varsity Soccer team that took place. Our students deserve safety, security, and support. There is absolutely no room for hate in Winooski. While this event is disheartening, I am humbled and inspired by the immediate response from our residents and community partners to uplift the students who were harmed. We will continue to call for accountability and change, as well as fight for equality and racial justice.
