City of Winooski COVID-19 Indoor Mask Mandate

Masks Required

During the 12.6.21 Winooski City Council meeting, a COVID-19 indoor mask mandate resolution was unanimously passed. This mandate was extended during the 1.10.22 Winooski City Council meeting. All individuals in the City of Winooski shall wear face coverings while indoors at locations that are open to the public.

Recently Asked and Answered Questions

  • Is proof of vaccination acceptable in place of wearing a mask?
    • No. Although vaccination reduces your likelihood of being hospitalized, vaccinated people can still be infected with and transmit COVID and should wear masks indoors. The City encourages all residents to get vaccinated (including boosters).
  • Can restaurant customers take off their masks when they are waiting for a table?
    • No, the resolution says that face coverings are not required “while eating or drinking inside any establishment that serves food or beverage.”
  • Does the mandate apply to religious congregations?
    • Yes, because they are places where the public gathers together.
  • Does the mandate apply to banks?
    • Yes, because they are public places and masks protect the customers and the employees.
  • Does the mandate apply to indoor, common areas of multi-family buildings?
    • Yes, because they are places where people from different households necessarily share space.
