Hello Winooski,
Many thanks to everyone who volunteered on Green Up Day! We estimate that over 200 neighbors pitched in this year - things are looking great in Winooski. I'd also like to thank everyone who came out to the Centennial Tree Planting at Richards Park. Keep an eye out for a beautiful new commemorative plaque that will be installed in the coming weeks. We hope community members enjoy this feature for many years to come.
If you didn't get a chance to attend the last Winooski City Council meeting, you can watch the recording via Town Meeting TV. During the meeting, Downtown Winooski submitted a few exciting events which were approved for this summer, including Juneteenth, the Winooski Wednesdays outdoor concert series, the return of the Winooski Famers Market, and French Heritage Day. Interested in learning more or getting involved with these events? Visit downtownwinooski.org.
We also reviewed applications for the recently launched COVID-19 recovery grant program. The City Council approved up to $100,000 of Federal COVID recovery grant money for this purpose back in February. Council approved the 2 eligible grants and asked staff to come back with recommendations to adjust the program to encourage more businesses to apply. Speaking of COVID-19, there's still time to take our online ARPA survey. How have you been impacted by the pandemic? Click here to share your thoughts. Your feedback will help us allocate American Rescue Plan Act funding in the future.
In other news, it is Inclusion Week in Vermont. Learn more about this amazing initiative here. The City of Winooski recently passed our resolution in support of this work, you can view that document here. To learn more about Equity and Inclusion work in Winooski, visit winooskivt.gov/equity. Speaking of equity, applications are now available to join the Winooski Commission for Equity and Inclusion. Click here to learn more and apply today.
On a more national note, I recently signed an open letter from the Woman Mayor's Network regarding the leaked Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. To learn more about what you can do to support the fight for reproductive freedom, visit the Planned Parenthood Action Fund website or donate to Vermont Access to Reproductive Freedom.
As always, feel free to reach out any time.
