Voting in Winooski
Winooski Residents can vote in three types of elections:
- Winooski Only (Municipal & School) Elections (open to all legal residents, regardless of citizenship status)
- State Elections (only open to legal citizens of the United States)
- Federal Elections (only open to legal citizens of the United States)

Winooski Only (Municipal & School) Elections
First Time Registering
If you are not able to register online:
- If this is your first time registering and you are not able to do so online, please visit the City Clerk’s Office at Winooski City Hall (27 West Allen Street) / M - F, 9 AM - 3 PM. You will need:
- Vermont Driver’s License number or
- Non-Driver Identification Card number or
- a copy of a valid residency document, for example:
- Permanent Resident Card or proof of residency card or related paperwork
- Vermont State or Local Government provided ID or paperwork
- School ID
- Utility or another bill (if utility is in voter's name)
- You may download, print, and fill out your voter registration form to bring with you to the Clerk’s Office.
- To have a voter registration form mailed to you, call 802 655 6410.
If you are registering to vote in Vermont for the first time by mail, you must include a photocopy of an acceptable form of ID:
- Valid photo ID (driver’s license or passport)
- Current utility bill
- Current bank statement
- Another government document

Absentee/Early Voting
Absentee/Early voting is available for your convenience!
- Vote in person at City Hall no earlier than 45 days before a primary or general election or 20 days before a municipal election
- Download the absentee ballot - deliver or mail to the City Clerk's Office (27 West Allen St)
- Call or email to request your absentee ballot by mail: 802 655 6410 / clerk@winooskivt.gov
There is no deadline to register, you may register to vote up to and including the day of the election. However, if you register online the day before the election or on Election Day, your application may not be processed and your name may not appear on the checklist and you may be asked to fill out another application at the polls. To be sure your name appears on the checklist, please register by the Friday before the election.

All elections in Winooski take place from 7 AM - 7 PM at the Winooski Senior Center on 123 Barlow Street.

Vermont State Elections
General information about voting in Vermont can be accessed via the Secretary of State's website: https://sos.vermont.gov/. You need to include your Vermont driver’s license number or your Vermont Non-Driver ID number on the form. If you do not have a Vermont driver’s license or a non-driver ID or your license has been suspended, you may use the last four digits of your social security number.
Registering to Vote

Running for Office - 2022 General Election
- Download the Consent of Candidate Form for Minor Parties. The completed form and nominating petitions must be filed at the Winooski City Clerk's Office (27 West Allen St) by 5 PM on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
